I am Dawn, Shane’s manager at the HI-Cabot Trail. Originally from England i lived and worked in Vancouver, British Columbia for a few years, before making my way from the “West Coast to the Best Coast!” After a summer working in Baddeck, I moved to Pleasant Bay in the fall of 2001. I worked as a whale tour guide and captain for a few years before starting at the Hostel under it’s previous owner. Shane kind of inherited me when he bought the place last year and i couldn’t be happier. I love this little town and the peace and tranquility it offers. I am looking forward to meeting you and helping you get the best out of your stay with us.
See you soon.!!!!
Hello, my name is Shane Pizzariello. I have been hostelling for over 23 years now. My first experience with hostels was in Australia and New Zealand in 1994 and from the first hostel…..WHAM!!!! I was hooked!!!!! My dad is from Cape Breton (Reserve Mines) and since my first stay at a hostel, it has been a dream of mine to have my own hostel in Cape Breton. I moved to Wentworth, Nova Scotia in 1999 from Jasper, Alberta, where I had been working at the HI-Jasper Hostel and all the chain hostels in the Jasper National Park for 10 years. I had a 5 year plan to have my own hostel, 14 years later my dream finally came true!!!! In July of 2013, I took over the HI-Cabot Trail Hostel in Cape Breton. Dawn is fantastic and without her I couldn’t have done this. I am now the Executive Director of Hostelling International for the Atlantic Region in Canada and work out of the HI-Halifax Hostel. I absolutely love the diversity of hostels and the people that I have the opportunity to meet from all over the world as well as Nova Scotia. I know that you will love our little hostel. It is cozy, friendly and nestled into the Beautiful area of Pleasant Bay………Can’t wait to meet ya
